Favorite Child

When I saw her for the first time
You said she’d be the best for me
Like a poem and words that rhyme
You showed us the world to see

When we held hands and kissed
You said that we are meant forever
Like the attraction we can’t resist
You inspired to always be together

When we made our future in hope
You said only death’ll do us apart
Like the stars in both our horoscope
You promised to guard our heart

When you took her away from me
You said that it’s what’s good for us
Like from deep pain, she is free
You meant not to love me any less

When I went back to an empty home
You said her memories fill all of it
Like the landscapes we got to roam
You prepared me how not to quit

When I asked you what is next here
You said the best is yet to arrive
Like the sun rises without any fear
You implored to keep myself alive

When I cried ‘why me’, ‘why me’
You said that I’m your favorite child
Like good luck is to destiny
You looked at me and just smiled
